The National Thematic Working Groups (WG) serve as national technical platforms that engage stakeholders in scientific discussions, plan and organize research, support in data collection and serve as platform for providing the National Steering Committee (NSC) on REDD+ with validated data and information for its decisions.
In 2013 four thematic working groups on REDD+ were constituted as follows. These working groups have representation of stakeholder from forestry and other relevant sectors.

- Stakeholders’ Engagement and Safeguards
- NFMS-MRV and FREL/FRL
- Drivers of Deforestation and Forest Degradation
