Provincial REDD+ Management Committees (PRMCs):

Introduction

Provincial Forest Departments of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan have designated their respective provincial Focal Points for REDD+ and have also formed, through notification, provincial REDD+ Management Committees to oversee the REDD+ activities at the provincial levels. These committees shall ensure participation of major stakeholders, identified in the previous studies completed under UN-REDD TS including NGOs/CSOs and private sector under the chairmanship of Provincial Forest Secretaries and would also act as inter-departmental institution for REDD+ activities. Additionally, the committee will deal with issues referred by Provincial Grievance and Implementation Units. The Committee will be authorized to endorse plans, programmes and projects related to REDD+ and approve annual budget for the respective province. First meetings of Provincial REDD+ Management Committees under R-PP grant convened from 27th March – 19th April, 2017.

The objectives of the meeting were (i) to sensitize the Provincial REDD+ Management Committees (PRMC) on the process and state of progress on REDD+ Readiness Preparation for Pakistan, (ii) review and discuss the provincial progress and financial requirements for provincial REDD+ Readiness, (iii)  to get endorse the additional financial requirements for provincial REDD+ readiness activities and (iv) sensitize and take on board the members of the PRMC to ensure support, transparency and facilitate effective and efficient communication and coordination for successful implementation of REDD+ Readiness activities in provinces.
